• Understand the goals and scope of the desired X.509 security implementation, including intended trading partners.
• Understand the existing configuration of Domino servers, Notes Client and Domino Web Access mail accounts, firewalls, e-mail security appliances, and similar elements.
• Understand the configuration of servers, key exchange, security appliances, and similar elements of the intended trading partners.
• Understand the company's policies and procedures about testing, documenting, and rolling out systems changes, especially any requirements to comply with Sarbanes-Oxley or similar legislation or regulations.

Design

• Plan the overall work program for the X.509 implementation.

Build & Test

• Implement the X.509 changes on a test Domino server.
• Test the X.509 changes with a desired trading partner, using e-mail accounts that include the desired e-mail client support.
• Work with security and e-mail administrators of the trading partner to ensure that the functionality is working between both entities.
• Work with appropriate personnel to plan the X.509 implementation on the production Domino server.

Implement

• Work with appropriate personnel to move the X.509 configuration into production.
• Support the implementation by being on site.

Review

• Conduct post-implementation review with users.
• Resolve issues.
